Women's Soccer Picks Up a Victory on the Road

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. - The Defiance College women's soccer team came from behind to score two second-half goals to bring home a 2-1 victory over Pomeroys on Saturday afternoon.

Saint Mary's took an early lead, scoring just thirteen minutes into the game. Senior, Madi Bowman (Eaton,Ohio/ Eaton) was in the net for all 90 minutes and recorded three saves for the Yellow Jackets, on the defensive end.

The Yellow Jackets did not make an offensive push until the second half tallying five shots compared to the Pomeroys two. In the 67th minute, senior, Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi) took a shot on frame, recording the first goal of the game for Defiance. Blake now has a career-high of 5 goals in the 2019 season thus far.

The Purple and Gold did not stop there as freshman, Ally Enneking (Cincinnati, Ohio / Roger Bacon ), found the back of the net to give the Yellow Jackets the 2-1 lead, with five minutes left to play. Enneking tallies her third goal of the season securing the win for the Yellow Jackets on the road.

The victory moves the Defiance College women's soccer team record to 3-2-1. The Purple and Gold will be in action on Wednesday, September 18th at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field on the Defiance College Campus as they take on UC Clermont. The match, slated for a 5:00 pm kickoff.
