DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance Yellow Jackets dropped a 6-0 decision at home against the Madonna Crusaders during Wednesday's WHAC women's soccer action at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
Eleni Mucaki started in goal for the first time this season and stood tough during the first 25 minutes, knocking down multiple opportunities from Madonna. She had eight total saves in the first half including a diving stop in the 13th minute to keep the game scoreless.
Madonna broke through off a broken play atop the box in the 25th minute. DC defended a pass to the top well but Marlena Ballnik powered through to find the loose ball, lined up a clean shot and netted the game's first score. The Crusaders scored three more goals before half with Molly Cote involved in all three. Cote scored goals in the 30th and 45th minutes and assisted Sara Castillo's goal in the 39th.
After halftime, the Crusaders knocked in two more goals from Nadine Jawad and Alessia Di Nino. Di Nino and Ballnik picked up the assists on those second half scores.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Defiance was unable to get a shot off during the match while Madonna fired 47.
- Out of Madonna's 47 attempts, 22 were on goal.
- Eleni Mucaki ended the match with 16 saves in her keeper debut for DC, matching a season high for the Yellow Jackets this year.
