Women’s Track Begins Indoor Season at Northwest Ohio Invite

FINDLAY, Ohio – Several runners worked their way into the record books as the women's track and field team began its 2011 indoor season at the Northwest Ohio Invitational on Friday. Katie Heitkamp highlighted the meet with a first-place performance in the pole vault.

Heitkamp cleared a personal-best 2.89 meters to claim top honors at the meet and come within half of an inch from DC's all-time best performance in the event.

Fellow sophomore, Ashlyn Howell, claimed first-place in the triple jump with a leap of 9.57 meters, while freshman, Kali George, placed third with a mark of 9.38 meters. George had a nice showing in the long jump as well, clearing 4.33 meters for a fourth-place finish.

Addie Henricks leapt into the record books in her first meet with the Jackets as she cleared 1.53 meters in the high jump to place second at the meet and fourth in program history. Tiana Bohanon made an instant impact for Defiance as well, finishing the 60-meter hurdles in 10.67 seconds to claim the second-place spot on DC's all-time performances list. Current 60-meter hurdle record holder, Marlea Rolander, finished a step ahead with a time of 10.11 seconds.  

Kaitlin Switzer placed third in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:23.86, while Ellen Stryfeller posted a personal-best time of 11:30.12, improving her third-place ranking in school history.  

Next up for the Yellow Jackets is the Trine Invitational on Friday, January 28. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
