Howell Receives Indoor Track and Field Honorable Mention
GREENWOOD, Ind. – DC’s Ashlyn Howell was the only non-event winner to receive recognition from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday, when the conference office released its inaugural All-HCAC Indoor Track and Field selections.
GREENWOOD, Ind. – DC's Ashlyn Howell was the only non-event winner to receive recognition from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday, when the conference office released its inaugural All-HCAC Indoor Track and Field selections.
Howell was tagged as an Honorable Mention All-HCAC selection, after placing in four separate events and accumulating a total of 18.50 points at the HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The sophomore athlete placed second in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 10.05 meters, and posted a personal-record 4.87-meter long jump to leap into third place in school history for the event. Howell also tied for sixth in the 55-meter dash, crossing the line in 8.07 seconds, and ran on DC's 4x200-meter relay team, which placed seventh at the meet.
With 18.50 points on the day, Howell accounted for nearly a quarter of DC's total. The Yellow Jackets earned 75 points at the meet, tying Manchester for fourth place in the team standings.
Defiance will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational at Anderson University. The meet is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
