DC's Kali George Named HCAC Field Athlete of the Week

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Continuing on with her fantastic junior campaign, DC's Kali George earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors for her victory in the pentathlon at the Cedarville Invite on Friday, February 1.

Competing as a lone participant for the Yellow Jackets women's track and field team at the invite, George took first place at the competition with a school record 3,036 points. The junior currently ranks 18th in the event in all of National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III and is first in the Great Lakes Region.

During the invite, George had her best finishes in the jumps events. She cleared another DC record 1.61 meters in the high jump to place first and also notched the top spot in the long jump, as she leaped a personal-best distance of 5.17 meters. For the other three events, the junior competitor clocked a 2:30.71 mark in the 800-meter run that was good for second place. George finished third in the 55-meter hurdles (9.70) and fourth in the shot put (7.47 meters).

The versatile athlete from East Palestine, Ohio has been rewriting the Purple and Gold record books this season with strong outings week after week. With two more this past weekend, her total now sits at five new Defiance College records on the season.

The Purple and Gold track and field squad will return to Defiance for its third home meet of the indoor season on Friday, February 8. Action at the competition will kick off at 4 p.m.
