On Saturday the Defiance College men’s and women’s track and field program will begin the 2020-21 outdoor season at the Cedarville Yellowjacket Collegiate Open. This season will be the first outdoor season for Defiance head coach Nathan Christianson, who was hired during the 2019-20 indoor season.
Despite being picked last in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason coaches polls, the Defiance College men's track and field team placed third at the HCAC Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. on Sunday afternoon with a total of 66 points. This is the team's highest finish since 2015 when they placed fourth. Gabriel Melvin won the 60-meters with a time of 6.98 seconds followed closely by teammate Ja'qway Janvier who placed second with a time of 7.02 seconds. Robert Marshall finished second in the 200-meters with a time of 23.07 seconds, a personal best, while Janvier returned to the podium with a third-place finish in the event.
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Three first-place finishes from Ja'qway Janvier set the tone for an impressive outing by the Defiance College track and field teams at the John Hartpence Invitational on Friday evening. Janvier ran the third-fastest time in school history in the 60-meters, clocking in at 6.96 seconds in the finals to win the event. He followed up this record performance by win the 200-meters with a time of 23.48 seconds and also placing first in the long jump with a distance of 5.93m.
