Defiance defeated at Mount Vernon Nazarene
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Defiance Yellow Jackets were dealt their second straight loss in three sets this weekend with a 3-0 loss (25-14, 25-13, 25-15) at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (3-10, 2-7 WHAC) opened a four-game road swing against the Cougars (8-6, 5-4 WHAC), who snapped a 3-match losing streak with the win on their home floor.
Mount Vernon Nazarene played a near flawless first set to set the tone, converting 15 kills with no attack errors. DC matched the Cougars point for point in the early stages of the contest with ties at every point through a 7-7 score. MVNU started taking 2 of 3 points before a 7-point streak flipped the momentum to a commanding 21-11 advantage. In the second, the Cougars quickly overcame a 2-0 Jackets lead with 9 straight points. DC committed 20 total errors in the attack phase in the second and third sets while the Cougars sailed to victory in three sets.
Mount Vernon Nazarene converted 35 kills to 8 errors for a .391 attack percentage, committed 12 service errors and did not allow an ace to the Yellow Jackets in the service game. DC had 23 total attack errors to 19 kills while committed 11 bad serves. Thaddeus Setla topped the DC stat sheet with 5 kills, 2 blocks and 8 digs.
