Yellow Jackets defeated by Kentucky State on Saturday
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Wrapping up a three-game trip, the Defiance Yellow Jackets suffered a 3-1 defeat (27-25, 23-25, 21-25, 23-25) to the Kentucky State Thorobreds at Bell Gymnasium on Saturday.
Thaddeus Setla led the Yellow Jackets (4-12, 2-7 WHAC) in kills with 17 and digs with 14 to conclude a strong weekend with 55 total kills. Matthew Schulte joined him in double figures with 10 kills and Philippe Meny had 9. Meny also had 14 digs while Adam Sutton posted 38 assists.
Defiance captured the first set, 27-25, outlasting Kentucky State (6-14) to open the action. Despite a 4-0 start in favor of the Jackets, the first set featured 14 ties while DC had to fight back from a 20-15 hole. In the second, Defiance ripped off 6 straight points before Kentucky State rallied to tie things back up at 9-9. Neither side could pull away at that point until the Thorobreds captured 2 points to even the match 1-1. Kentucky State used an 8-point streak to take command of the third and overcame another good start by DC in the fourth to clinch the contest in four sets.

Defiance returns home for conference play on Tuesday, hosting the Indiana Tech Warriors at the Karl H. Weaner Center at 7 p.m.
