Jackets battle with Indiana Tech before slump in fourth set
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance Yellow Jackets went toe-to-toe with the Indiana Tech Warriors for the first three sets of the night before coming undone in the fourth set to lose, 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 22-25, 14-25), at the Karl H. Weaner Center on Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets (4-13, 2-8 WHAC) outhit the Warriors (12-7, 7-3) through the first three sets of the match with 37 kills and 19 errors compared to 31 kills on 18 errors by Indiana Tech. However, DC slipped in the fourth with 10 attack errors and 4 more in the service game as the Warriors emphatically closed the match.
DC got the Warriors' attention in the first set by holding the lead most of the set. The score stood 18-13 before the Warrirors responded with 7 straight points to capture their first lead of the match, eventually leading to a 2-point victory to start the evening. The Purple and Gold jumped ahead again in the second but never relinquished the lead to even the match at 1-1. In the third, Defiance boasted another strong start with a 7-0 lead while the Warriors committed 4 attack errors. Indiana Tech chipped away to a 22-18 deficit before scoring 7 straight points to clinch the third set and set the tone for the fourth.
Thaddeus Setla led the team in kills for the third straight match, scorching a match-high 16 kills on 40 total attacks. Matthew Schulte had 14 kills for the Yellow Jackets and Philippe Meny had 6. Oniel Alvarez led the way with 6 digs and Adam Sutton posted 33 assists.
