DC dispatched by nationally-ranked Blue Devils
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance Yellow Jackets closed their doubleheader weekend of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference men's volleyball with a 3-1 loss to the #13 Lawrence Tech Blue Devils (16-25, 33-31, 8-25, 20-25) at the Karl H. Weaner Center on Saturday.
After a decisive first set win by the Blue Devils (12-5, 8-4 WHAC), the Yellow Jackets (5-14, 3-9 WHAC) endured a marathon second set to even the match 1-1. Just one night's sleep removed from the longest set of the season on Friday night, the 33-31 second set between DC and Lawrence Tech was the Jackets' longest set of their first season. The set featured 15 ties before Zack Baker clinched the lengthy engagement with a slam for the final point to even the match.
The Blue Devils made quick work of Defiance in the third set, posting a 25-8 score with 14 kills to 0 attack errors. In the fourth, the Jackets displayed some resilience working back from a 12-3 hole to a 24-20 score before LTU posted a match-clinching kill.
Thaddeus Setla led DC with 14 kills while Matthew Schulte added 13 more. Setla led the team with 12 digs followed by Oniel Alvarez with 11. Defiance posted 37 total kills to 28 attack errors for an .075 average. Lawrence Tech logged 59 kills to just 18 attack errors.

Defiance is back in home on Tuesday night against #8 Lourdes. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
