GOSHEN, Ind. – Defiance College men's volleyball ended its first season with a 3-0 loss (25-19, 25-18, 25-18) to the Goshen Maples Leafs at Ruth Gunden Gymnsasium on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets completed the season with a record of 6-20 and were 3-15 in WHAC play. The Maples Leafs captured their sixth league win but are on the outside looking in to the 6-team WHAC Tournament field as well.
The first set was tight throughout and was tied as late as 16-16 before the Leafs took 7 of 8 points to reach within 2 points of taking the set. The affair was back and forth in the second as well until Goshen inched away after being the first to 10 points. The third set was an exchange of early runs and stood 11-10 Goshen, but the Leafs took 9 of 12 points to reach 20.
As a team, Defiance completed 32 kills to 24 errors. Zack Baker led the way with 12 kills for the Jackets followed by Quinn Silverman with 6. Adam Sutton and Kameron Engle split assists 14 to 12 while Oniel Alverez posted a team-high 7 digs.
