DC Volleyball defeats Lourdes for seventh straight victory
SYLVANIA, Ohio – The wins continue to come for the Defiance Yellow Jackets volleyball program as the team endured a five-set win over the Lourdes Gray Wolves (25-17, 26-16, 18-25, 21-25, 15-13) for the team's seventh straight win.
The Yellow Jackets (10-5, 3-0) jumped out to 2-0 lead after claiming the first two sets. However, the Gray Wolves (4-4, 0-3) forced a fifth set by winning the next two. The two squads treated the crowd to an entertaining final round with four ties down the stretch before DC secured the last two points of the match.
The win gave Defiance its first five-set win of the season and also improved to 3-0 in the WHAC, remaining tied for first place in the league with Lawrence Tech.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Defiance's seven wins in a row is the longest by the program since an eight-game stretch in 2014.
- As a team, Defiance converted a season-high 55 kills on the night on 182 total attacks.
- Defensively, the Jackets blocked nine Lourdes attacks led by four solo stuffs by Jaelyn Tomoletz.
- Gabby Rodriguez led the Purple and Gold with 15 kills, followed by Chaney Brodbeck's 12 and Tomoletz with 11.
- Brodbeck led the team with 20 digs, the first DC player to have a 20-dig performance this year.
- Haley Hammer was the team's top passer with 17 assists, and she also recorded a team-best four aces.
- In the first set, Defiance overcame a 4-0 hole and also won 13 of the last 18 points to break a 12-12 tie to win the first set.
- The second set saw DC jump out to an 8-0 advantage and scored nine straight points during the set win.
UP NEXT
The Yellow Jackets are off until Wednesday when they travel to Michigan-Dearborn for another conference matchup against the Wolverines. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
