SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - In Friday night's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference men's volleyball action, the Defiance Yellow Jackets were defeated in straight sets to the 6th-ranked Lawrence Tech Blue Devils (25-14, 25-15, 25-16) at Don Ridler Field House.
The Yellow Jackets (1-5, 0-3 WHAC) lost their fifth straight match and third conference match, all of which were against teams ranked or receiving votes in the national polls. The Blue Devils (7-2, 3-1 WHAC) won their third straight by hitting a remarkable .604 as a team with just 5 attack errors. Defiance held leads in all 3 sets, including a 5-1 start to the third set, but Lawrence Tech found its rhythm with lengthy rallies to gain control.
Philippe Meny had 6 kills and Thaddeus Setla landed 5 kills of his own to lead the Yellow Jackets. As a team, DC had 18 kills canceled out by 18 errors to equate to a .000 hitting percentage. Lawrence Tech saw two players eclipse 10 kills for a team total of 37. One blemish for the Blue Devils was 20 service errors that awarded DC 20 of its 45 total points for the match.
